Son pleads for info on dad's murder

The son of an invalid pensioner murdered in his Adelaide home in 2002 has made an emotional plea for help in finding the killer.

The body of Steven George Armstrong was found in the unit in Adelaide’s west by his landlord on December 23, 2002. Had he lived he would have turned 50 on Monday.

There is a $200,000 reward for information leading to a conviction, and police said at the time Mr Armstrong appeared to have died of multiple stab wounds and to have been dead for several weeks.

His son, John Armstrong, told reporters on Sunday that the family had suffered for 10 years and hoped that someone would come forward and tell them what happened.

“I was 19 years old when my dad was murdered,” he said.

“As I grew up, we slowly grew apart.

“We were going to have the chance that Christmas to catch up and (I could) tell him he would be a granddad.

“But some heartless coward or cowards decided to take his life away from us.”

Detective John Schneemilch said police know that sounds of a disturbance were heard near the unit in early December. He reiterated their call for anyone with fresh information to come forward.
