Striking it rich a year after disaster

An Ipswich newsagent has marked the one-year anniversary of the floods by celebrating a $5 million Oz 7 Lotto win by one of their customers.

Vogue Newsagency owner Mike Boyland said the win was the perfect way to end a tumultuous year for his Brisbane Street business.

A Brassall man, who regularly buys his lotto tickets from the newsagency, had his lucky day on Tuesday night.

The flood waters forced Mr Boyland to refit his shop west of Brisbane, leaving his doors shut for seven months so the win was a fantastic lift after what had been a tough year.

“It’s just amazing. The flood was on the 11th of January and then we sell the winning division one prize on January 11 this year, the opposite ends of the spectrum. For seven months we had no shop. We opened back up in August and it has been a bit of a battle,” he said.
