Sudan jets bomb border with South

The South’s army spokesman, Philip Aguer says bombers and fighter jets hit the Southern village of Chotchare in Unity state and targeted temporary cattle-herding settlements.

In Mid-April, South Sudanese forces seized oil-rich Heglig, which is internationally regarded as a part of Sudan, drawing days of deadly border clashes.

On Sunday, South Sudan announced that it has completed the withdrawal of its forces from the disputed Heglig oilfield after days of increasing pressure from Sudan.

South Sudan claimed that Sudanese armed forces attacked departing soldiers. However, Sudan denies the accusations, saying it repelled an attack by rebels on its own side of the border.

South Sudan became independent on July 9, 2011, after decades of conflict with the north. The new oil-rich nation is one of the least developed countries in the world, where one in seven children dies before the age of five.
