Suspected bullet hole found in Sydney home

Police are investigating a suspected shooting at a southwestern Sydney home.

A resident found what police believe to be a bullet hole at a house in Hilltop Road at Merrylands at about 10am (AEST) on Sunday.

A crime scene was set up and police spoke to neighbours, with one witness reporting hearing a number of loud bangs at about 1am (AEST).

The suspected shooting is not believed to be related to another shooting at a nearby suburb on the same night.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the right arm and abdomen shortly before 9.45pm (AEST) on Saturday outside a block of flats in Auburn.

NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson described that incident as the 70th shooting in Sydney this year and said it showed more police were desperately needed.

“Everywhere I go where these shootings are occurring, families are terrified because they know that a stray bullet could lead to something much more tragic than what we’ve seen here today,” Mr Robertson told reporters on Sunday.
