Syrian rebels say ready for Annan plan

The group announced on Monday it would stop operations against government troops on Tuesday as required by Anna’s plan, which calls on calls on all groups to stop violence on April 10th.

“We have announced that we will cease operations against the army of the regime on the morning of April 10, and we will respect this pledge if the regime commits to respecting the terms of the (UN) plan,” AFP quoted Colonel Kassem Saadeddine a spokesman for the group as saying in a statement.

The group, however, says that it will present its written guarantees and commitments about ending attacks to the international community not the Syrian government.

There was no response from Damascus to the FSA statement, but the Syrian government had earlier said that it would only carry out its side of the bargain, withdrawing troops from crisis-hit cities, if rebels first handed over written guarantees to stop fighting.

Syrian Foreign Ministry says the government must ensure that the rebels do not exploit any troop withdrawal to reorganize and rearm themselves.

Damascus has also demanded a promise from foreign states, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, to stop funding the terrorist groups.

Annan’s six-point peace plan calls on Syrian armed forces to withdraw from protest centers on Tuesday, with a complete end to fighting set for 48 hours later.

It also calls on armed groups to follow the government’s lead.

Damascus has already accepted the deal.
