“The Old Rabbi”, a painting which has long been hanging on the walls of the Worbury Abbey, the home of the Dukes of Bedford, has been confirmed as a Rembrandt.

The Worbury Abbey holds one of the greatest art collections in the world, which includes several paintings of renowned artists such as Van Dyck, Reynold, Gainsborourgh and Canaletto.

The Abbey’s curator, Chris Gravett asked Ernst van de Wetering, one of the world’s leading experts on Rembrandt to take a look at “The Old Rabbi”. After studying the painting for several hours Mr. van de Wetering confirmed the painting was indeed done by the 17th century Dutchman.

Mr. van der Wetering also believes that the work of art might be depicting  Boaz,  the biblical character that married Ruth.
