Three killed on Victoria’s roads

A motorcyclist who tried to outrun police, reaching speeds of up to 170km/h before crashing into a pole on Monday, has died in hospital.

His death took to three the number of people who have died on the state’s roads on Tuesday.

Police attempted to intercept the 32-year-old motorcyclist travelling outbound on the Monash Freeway just after 9pm (AEST).

Police ended the pursuit because of the high speed and minutes later were called to Blackburn Road, Mount Waverley where the rider had crashed.

The Hoppers Crossing man was taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition where he died on Tuesday afternoon.

His death takes the state’s road toll to 102, one fewer than for the same time last year.

At 4pm a male cyclist was struck by a car while travelling north on Clunes Creswick Road in Ballarat.

And a man aged in his 50s died in a single vehicle collision at Miepoll north, in the east of the state, at 3.30pm.

It is believed he was travelling north along Euroa-Shepparton Road near Murchison-Violet Town Road when his Ford sedan left the road and hit a tree.
