Tragedy in St. Petersburg: None survived Crash of Flight KGL9268 in Egypt

nsnbc : Tragedy plays out among the bereft families and loved ones of the passengers on board Kogalmavia Airlines a.k.a Metrojet Flight KGL9268. The plane left the Egyptian Red Sea resort Sharm el-Sheikh Saturday morning, heading to St. Petersburg, Russia.

Egyptian authorities immediately dispatched over 50 ambulances as well as search and rescue teams and aviation investigators to the crash site of flight KGL9268. Meanwhile relatives and loved ones of the 224 passengers and crew on board the Airbus 321 arrived at St. Petersburg Airport. All hopes that anyone may have survived the tragic crash turned into grief when Egyptian authorities announced that there were no survivors.

The Russian State news agency Tass reports that Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said that Moscow will actively participate in the investigation of Kolavia plane crash in Egypt. Sokolev, who reportedly took to Egypt after a statement to the press said:

“We maintain working contacts with all air traffic controllers. In any case, we can talk about causes of the crash only after all information is analyzed and an international investigation is conducted in accordance with the Chicago Convention. Russia will actively participate in this investigation. As soon as any results are received, we will promptly share them with everyone involved. … We know where the mark vanished. It disappeared on the Israeli-Egyptian border or around it,” he noted. “We have the full version of technical documents. The airliner had an airworthiness certificate and was allowed to perform international flights. … Together with Egyptian aviation authorities, we will investigate this accident at the site. We can already say that it was not an incident. A catastrophe happened with our airliner. The governmental commission is starting its work on investigating the causes of the crash.”

The majority of the passengers on board were reportedly Russian holiday makers who were returning from the Egyptian Red Sea resort Sharm el-Sheikh. Kogalmavia Airlines a.k.a Metrojet, St. Petersburg Airport and Russian Authorities are reportedly establishing a crisis center at St. Petersburg Airport to provide psychological help, information and other services that are required in air tragedies to the bereft families and loved ones. Egyptian authorities reportedly said that there were 3 men, 138 women and 17 children at the age between 2 and 17 on board of the ill-fated jetliner. nsnbc will be providing a link to a confirmed passenger list and other services when we can acquire the information.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly declared November 1 a day of national mourning. The presidency encourages cultural institutions and broadcasters to cover the tragedy and to cancel entertaining programs on November 1.
