A millionaire’s daughter sent a gangster flirtatious messages hours before they embarked on a looting spree during last summer’s riots, a court heard yesterday.
Laura Johnson, 20, claims she was forced to drive a getaway car for three men who threatened her with talk of guns and knives.
But a jury heard she had been sending one of these men, Emmanuel Okubote, texts about sex and how she missed the convicted robber and crack dealer.
The messages between Johnson and Okubote were exchanged on August 8 – a day before the alleged two-hour rampage across South London.
In one, she said: ‘I miss you, just a little bit,’ to which Okubote replied: ‘You too.’
Later, the University of Exeter student described her troubles writing an essay.
She wrote: ‘It really hard though… Unless it’s sex, ha ha ha, I hate working hard.’
He replied: ‘Don’t worry, you’ll get it.’
The jury at Inner London Crown Court has heard Johnson, who denies burglary and handling stolen goods, had met Okubote, also known as Sylar, for trysts in her car – where they would ‘kiss and stuff’.
She claims the 20-year-old from Catford, who is not standing trial, had threatened her on the night of the riots by putting his hands around her throat.
Johnson, of Orpington, Kent, told police: ‘I didn’t get the impression they were the sort of people you say “no” to.’
Johnson, who has been bailed to her parents’ large detached farmhouse, was a high-flying pupil at Newstead Wood School in Bromley, Kent.
She is also a former pupil of St Olave’s Grammar School in Orpington, the fourth-best performing state school in the country.
A 17-year-old co-defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies similar charges, but has pleaded guilty to one count of burglary.
Alexander Elliot-Joahill, 18, has pleaded guilty to several charges of burglary and handling stolen goods.
The trial continues.
