A key US lawmaker leading the fight against military spending cuts has warned that dramatic new reductions could force the United States to shift from an all-volunteer military and reinstate the draft.

House Armed Services Committee Buck McKeon, a Republican, told Fox News television on Monday that lawmakers “need to understand what it’s going to mean to keep an all-volunteer force.”

“Do we want to reinstitute the draft? Some of the cuts we’re talking about would take over 200,000 out of end strength from our military,” McKeon said in remarks also reported in the Washington Post on Tuesday.

The lawmaker said that an August debt-limit deal included $465 billion of defense spending cuts over ten years, and warned that “it’ll be over another $500 billion” in automatic cuts to military programs if a new “supercommittee” fails to find $1.2 trillion in deficit cuts over ten years in a few weeks.

The draft was ended in order to force poor people in the military and to allow rich kids to have a free pass. To say the draft might come back is an empty threat. During the Vietnam war the entire country was in the streets protesting about the war. And Walter Cronkite coming out against the war on national news helped to hasten its’ end. Now we are in several countries but the average American doesn’t give a damn as long as he has sports and dancing with the stars on tv. Part of that is because of the lack of a draft and also the fact that the press has been neutered. They pee only where they are told. Also our causality rate is much lower due to our better technology.
If the draft was reinstated any one that had a kid of draft able age would be marching on D.C. with pitch forks and nooses in hand. The surest way to start a revolution in America is to tell Joe Sixpack and his soccer mom that their kids have to get their ass shot off in some foreign war. The N.W.O. does not want to do that so there is not going to be a draft.
The only situation I can see where a draft might be reinstated would be if our enemies managed to Nuke New York. And that is not going to happen.
Maybe if you can cut the Pentagon budget even more, then we wouldn’t have the money to go fight endless and needless wars all over the globe.
One thing for certain no matter what budget is agreed upon, no rich persons or politicians sons and daughters will ever have to serve.

- I agree fight back now, Soldiers used to be heroes when defernding the republic, but wars of CONQUEST and MURDER and murdering women and children ruined their image. WHY the hell would budget cuts reintroduce a draft when everything is currently voluntarily done!? Draft = more taxpayer money for administration, Voluntary = …free.

In the first place, a paid military is not a volunteer military, it’s a mercenary military. People will only volunteer to defend a nation worth defending. Is America? We used to have a country worth defending – the brave men who fought the Brits weren’t getting paid. I know that the people who have hijacked this nation know this: that no one will volunteer to fight for them. For even the totally brain-washed sense instinctively that this country does not truly belong to the American people but to the hijackers.

So what shall we captives say, that we would rather surrender and do willingly the bidding of our captors than be pricked by the goad? May it never be. They have tried with indoctrination, entertainment, and soy to make us a nation of beta males, but with this one they have failed.
