US, S. Korea launch joint military drill

The military exercise kicked off on Tuesday with Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), which provides counter fire and suppression of enemy air defenses. It’s also capable of supporting and delivering basic and extended range rockets.

Some 30,000 American troops are currently based in South Korea.

The US and South Korea have conducted numerous massive joint sea and air drills in waters east of the Korean Peninsula.

The allies conducted joint military exercises in March, 2012 dubbed “Key Resolve and Foal Eagle” at Camp Carroll located in southeast of Seoul.

The United States’ joint military exercises with the South often draw condemnation from North Korea. Pyongyang says the drills threaten peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. However, Seoul says the drills are routine and defensive in nature.
