Vic house explosion critically burns man

A man has been badly burnt as a massive explosion destroyed a house in eastern Victoria.

Neighbours called triple-zero just after midnight on Monday as the house erupted in flames in the southeast Gippsland township of Yarram.

Fire crews arrived to find a severely burned 35-year-old man in the front yard.

He was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne with burns to about 70 per cent of his body.

Firefighters took an hour to bring the blaze under control.

A CFA spokeswoman said it’s believed an exploding gas cylinder was the cause.

Detectives from the police arson squad will assist in the investigation.
