A 40-year-old Victorian man has died while cave diving near Mt Gambier.


South Australian police say the man died while exploring the dark, subterranean passages of Tank Cave yesterday afternoon.

They were called to the cave at about 3.45pm when he failed to surface after the dive.

The found his body inside the cave a short time later.

Tank Cave is where world renowned Polish cave diver Agnes Milowka died in February.

Milowka, 29, ran out of air after becoming separated from her diving companion in the eight-kilometre-long channel system of Tank Cave.

It is one of Australia’s longest underwater caves.
