A multi-day Virtual Conference will be aired over the Internet on a host of topics important for the future and today . The 2012 “Smart Future” Virtual Conference, Expo Jobs Showcase will feature over 30 national leaders and state experts on clean energy, smart community planning and sustainable economic development. The event will take place via Webcast on April 4 -6, 2012 at http://www.energysmartplanning.org/Virtual_Conference.html.

The broad purpose of the event is to help create a future founded on clean energy resources, efficient resource use, green communities and sustainability. The Conference will equip participants with a wide assortment of ways to achieve these goals … from innovative green technology choices … to “smart planning”, design and development approaches for communities … to strategic means of economic development, job creation and business support … to creative environmental protection solutions … and more.

There is no-charge to attend the event, but advance registration is required to ensure access.

No special equipment is needed to take part; just a computer and Internet connection. Registrants can come and go to any or all sessions using a single access link (URL).

An unprecedented faculty of over 30 national leaders and state experts will present, such as: Dr. Kathleen Hogan, Deputy Assistant Secretary, US Department of Energy (DOE); Stan Meiburg, Deputy Regional Administrator, US Environmental Protection Agency; Shelley Poticha, Director, Office of Sustainable Housing Communities, US Department of Housing Urban Development (HUD); Mitchell Silver, national President, American Planning Association; Steve Nadel, Executive Director, American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy; Kateri Callahan, national President, Alliance to Save Energy; Liz Thorstensen, Vice President, International Economic Development Council; and Dr. James Fenton, Director, Florida Solar Energy Center.

The Conference will provide a wide range of tools, models and resources for making the shift to a green future. Attendees will learn the latest strategies, technologies, tools and options for making communities green, bolstering local economies, tapping renewable energy and energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gases and achieving sustainability.

According to Marcia Elder, Executive Director of the Future Is Now Foundation: “The purpose of the Conference is to help bring about a better future through green communities and a resilient, sustainable economy.” Adds Elder, “We’ve brought together an amazing faculty of top national leaders plus state experts, all in a free event that you can attend from wherever you are.”

The Conference is part of a larger initiative called “Smart Planning for a Green Future. It has received funding support from the State Energy Office through the Florida Energy Climate Commission. In-kind support has been provided by a diverse mix of state and federal agencies and other organizations.
