An Australian kidnapped in the southern Philippines has pleaded for his life in a video sent to his wife.
AUTHORITIES are providing regular briefings to the family of the Australian man taken for ransom in the Philippines as investigations into his kidnapping continue.
Warren Rodwell, 53, was snatched from his home in the Philippines last month.
A video has emerged of Mr Rodwell pleading for his life and describing a demand for US$2 million from his captors.
The Australian Government ruled out paying the ransom but the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was doing everything possible to secure his release.
The department has confirmed it is in “regular” contact with Mr Rodwell’s Australian-based family.
This was to provide consular support and share information from Filipino authorities about how the investigation is progressing.
A whole-of-government taskforce in Canberra is working with the Philippines Government as it tries to locate Mr Rodwell’s captors.

In November a Senate committee recommended the Government do more to help families of kidnap victims.
The committee’s report also said the next of kin should be given more information about the option of engaging a private kidnap consultant.
It is understood Mr Rodwell was injured during the attack and there have been reports blood was found at his home.
It is suspected the Sydney man could be held by al-Qaida-linked militia group Abu Sayyaf, but it is unclear who was behind the raid on his home last month.
Mr Rodwell’s family has asked for privacy.
“We are sure people will understand that this is a difficult time for our family and friends,” his family said through DFAT.
