Ankara’s War Against Syrian – Kurdish YPG Backfires: PKK Declares War Against Turkey


nsnbc : Turkey, this week, escalated airstrikes as well as ground offensives against the Syrian – Kurdish YPG and the Turkish offensive continues and continues to claim victims. However, Turkey’s strategy backfire d as the PKK declared that it offensives against Turkey in response to the continuous oppression of Kurds in Turkey and the recent campaign against Kurds in Syria.

Rojava_Syria_Apr 28_2017_Turkey attacks YPGOn April 25 at 02:00 hours local time, the YPG General Command located in Qereçox was bombed by warplanes belonging to the Turkish government. Also targeted were, according to the YPG, the YPG’s Press Center, the command affiliated institutions, the Denge Rojava Radio building and many other points belonging to YPG forces. The YPG reported that this attack alone claimed 20 lives while another 18 were wounded.

On April 26 the Turkish Army attacked YPG positions near Heşarkê Bridge in the Efrin Canton, Ezaz, Kefer Xaşer, Til Malid, Ablê Şiltehtê region and Sosyên village, reported the YPG. On April 27, the Turkish Army organized an attack along the border line between the Til Findir and Sûsik villages of Kobanê Canton and the border line between Girê Spî-Kobanê. The Turkish Army reportedly also attacked the village of Elok and the surroundings of Serekaniyê city.

Moreover, using various weapons including howitzers, mortars and tanks against the village of Qara Baba, Haşerkê village and its bridge, Meydan Ekbes village and throughout the border line from Dêrbelut and Şiltehê village; and again on the positions of our forces in the villages of Maranez, Belûnê, Eyn Deqnê and Heman, the Turkish Army reportedly also pursued its campaign.

On the evening of April 28 the Turkish Army reportedly bombed the villages of Maranez, Belûnê, Eyn Deqnê and Vîla Qadî with simultaneous artillery fire. Simultaneously with the attacks, unmanned reconnaissance planes belonging to the Turkish army flew over the region, reported the YPG. Also on April 28, the Turkish Army reportedly attacked the Hemdunê Hill and Xerez region between Amudê and Dirbesiyê at about 04.30 am with tank and mortar fire.

Ankara’s Campaign Against Kurds Could Backfire As PKK Considers War Against Turkey

Turkey’s Kurdistan Worker’s party (PKK) responded to recent developments with a press release announcing that its armed forces will now fight against what they describe as the fascism of the Turkish ruling party everywhere. The PKK stated that its armed wing, the People’s Protection Force (HPG) and its female counterpart YPJ-Star will be deployed to where they are needed.

The PKK denounced as “belonging to the same group” Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), and ISIS as the ones who have the same goal of crushing the will of the Yezidi people in Shingal, and the people of Syria. In the PKK affiliated ANF News Agency that PKK stated Thursday evening “After the occupation of Jarablus and al-Bab, and the April 24th attack in Shingal and Rojava [Syrian Kurdistan], the PKK has the right to carry out its struggle against the fascism of the AKP and MHP wherever they are.”

The Free Syrian Army (FSA), backed by Turkish armed forces captured the two Syrian cities of Jarablus and al-Bab from ISIS in late 2016, and early 2017,respectively. The People’s Protection Units  (YPG) in Rojava, Syria,  also aimed at the two cities that are close to Turkey’s southern border. The PKK stressed that “…the HGP and the YPJ-Star will be present wherever they are needed”.
