Israel heaps on war rhetoric on Iran

“We’ve waited for diplomacy to work, we’ve waited for sanctions to work. None of us can afford to wait much longer,” said Netanyahu, addressing the annual conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington on Monday.

The Israeli premier repeated Israel’s allegations against Iran’s nuclear energy program and insisted, “We need to talk about the cost of not stopping Iran.”

Netanyahu pledged to work against Iran’s nuclear energy program, emphasizing that he will “never gamble” on what he called Israel’s security.

The remarks came following Netanyahu’s Monday meeting with US President Barack Obama, which focused on Iran’s nuclear energy program.

“We deeply appreciate the alliance between our two nations (US and Israel), but when it comes to Israel’s survival, we must always remain the masters of our fate,” Netanyahu pointed out.

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program and are using the allegation as a pretext to push for the imposition of new sanctions on Iran and to beat the drums of war for an attack on the Islamic Republic.

Iran argues that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology meant for peaceful purposes.
