Theresa May Makes Boris Johnson UK’s Foreign Secretary

nsnbc : Britain’s new Prime Minister Theresa May appointed “Brexit” Boris Johnson as new Foreign Secretary.

Boris Johnson_UKTheresa May’s decision to appoint Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary comes after Johnson, contrary to towing former PM David Cameron’s party line, argued for the UK’s Brexit. While widely perceived as “controversial”, May may have chosen Johnson to build bridges in domestic affairs as well as with the EU.

May, who herself was against the UK’s exit from the EU commented earlier that the Brexit was a fact and that the issue needed to be addressed as soon as possible. Picking Johnson as Foreign Secretary may, according to may, aim as much at keeping the Conservative Party united as it aims at appointing a foreign secretary who stands for the policy that needs to be negotiated between the UK and the EU.

Should Hillary Clinton win the upcoming US presidential elections, Johnson (no stranger to controversy), may have to explain what he meant when he said that Clinton has “dyed blonde hair and pouty lips, and a steely blue stare like a nurse in a mental hospital”; And that despite the fact that many would probably agree with him. Whether Johnson was right or wrong is in the eye of the beholder, it just wasn’t exactly “diplomatic. Some would say “a disaster” others would say “how refreshing”.

Johnson would also be less than diplomatic about Turkey’s President R. Tayyip Erdogan. Johnson won £1,000 in a competition run by the Spectator magazine to find the most offensive poem that could be written about Erdogan by penning a not-fit-to-print limerick involving Erdogan and a goat. Johnson formerly edited the magazine. Limericks are an important part of British culture, and so is free speech. “A disaster” would some say, while others would say “how refreshing”.

The big and important question is, however, whether Johnson will be equally frank about London’s own role in engineering the war in Syria years ahead of the first “protests” in 2011; And that, as refreshing as it would be, is highly improbable.
