TCP : Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tanju Bilgiç announced that his country will invite Egypt to attend the 13th summit of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC,) scheduled to be held in Istanbul April 10-15, Hurryiet Daily News reported.
“Egypt will decide who will represent Cairo at the summit, during which Egypt will hand over the summit term presidency to Turkey,” said Bilgiç in a press conference Saturday, adding that official invitation has not been sent to Cairo yet.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry is yet to release its comments on the invitation.
The tense relations between Egypt and Turkey escalated following the military-backed ouster of former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Founded in 1969, the OIC consists of 57 member states. The organization is concerned with promoting the moderate teachings of Islam. Madani was elected as chairman of the OIC in December 2013.
On Jan. 3, President Abdel Fatah al Sisi met with Iyad bin Amin Madani, secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Cairo. During the meeting, they discussed a range of issues listed on the OIC’s agenda including recent political development in the Islamic countries in addition to ways to combat terrorism and extreme ideologies, according to Youm7.
