The mother of a baby boy, allegedly murdered by his father on the weekend, had only months ago described the joy her son’s birth had brought the couple.

The almost seven-month-old baby was killed when he and his father plunged 15 metres into the Logan River at Beenleigh, south of Brisbane, before 6.45pm on Saturday.

The father survived and was charged with the baby’s murder yesterday morning after police divers recovered the young boy’s body about 9.30am.

The family of seven – the dead boy had four older sisters – were nomads who had been travelling around Australia and New Zealand since 2010 and practised an alternative lifestyle, with the children being “unschooled” and the allegedly murdered baby being delivered in a freebirthing experience – a labour with no medical intervention such as the help of a midwife or doctor.

The mother kept a blog about the family’s travels and the milestones of her children and wrote about how much the family doted over him.

“Our four daughters have embraced [the baby] wholeheartedly,” she said.

“They’ve been talking to him and loving him up in utero and now that he’s available to kiss and cuddle directly, they all take turns to adore him.

“[The father] and I are still in awe of [the baby’s] presence. Every now and again we wonder aloud, ‘Do we really have a son?’ The birth seems so far away, so long ago — already, and it’s sometimes difficult to remember what has taken place to bring this special little person into our lives.”

She said the son had first appeared to her as a vision when she was 19 years old.

When she fell pregnant for the fifth time, her and her husband “felt certain” it would be the baby boy of her vision.

He was born on November 26 while the family were living in trailers with the Rainbow Gathering community near Singleton in New South Wales.

Two days before the baby’s death the mother tweeted: “Children will always follow in the footsteps you thought you covered up”.

A couple of hours after her son died she posted on the social networking site: “I was so lucky to meet [the baby]. 26.11.11 – 23.06.12. I love you, little one. Go with God.”

The family have most recently been staying at the back of a property in Eagleby south of Brisbane.

The father, 38, has been charged with murder and is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
