THE Dalai Lama is in the running to take out the Gold Ernie in this year’s annual awards for sexist behaviour.

The 19th Ernie Awards will be held at NSW Parliament House in Sydney tonight, attended by 300 women.

The Tibetan spiritual leader, a newcomer to the list, won a nomination for assuming Australia’s Prime Minister was a man.

“I have nothing to ask him … there’s no point to seek advice from him,” he said when asked if he was disappointed Julia Gillard had declined meeting him during his visit to Australia in June.

Sharing the field is Wikileaks founder Julian Assange for saying the women who had laid sexual assault charges against him had got into “a tizzy”, and opposition leader Tony Abbott for standing in front of signs saying “Bob’s Bitch” and “Ditch the Witch”.

Racehorse trainer Gai Waterhouse is up for an Elaine Trophy for remarks least helpful to the Sisterhood for saying Ms Gillard was desperately in need of a makeover in regard to a photo of the PM standing in front of an image of tsunami-ravaged Japan.

The awards are given out for sexist comments during the year and judged by the number boos they receive.

There are 92 nominations in a range of categories, including a “good Ernie” for men behaving better, with federal MP Malcolm Turnbull featured in the list.
