Tourism operators at a conference in Queensland are eagerly expecting an announcement of new direct flights to Cairns from an Asian destination, likely to be Singapore.
Premier Campbell Newman will open the DestinationQ conference in Cairns on Monday, with the aim of restoring confidence among the 300-plus guests from across the tourism sector.
Far north Queensland tourism operators are hoping for an announcement of a new direct air service from Asia.
Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey has also flagged a possible announcement on red tape preventing tourism ventures in national parks.
The Newman government aims to double visitor expenditure to $30 billion by 2020, deeming it one of the “four pillars” of the state’s economy.
