Eight killed in Pakistan bomb blast

The casualties come after a bomb device ripped through a crowd outside residence of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Law Minister Israrullah Gandapur on Wednesday.

Local officials said the crowd had gathered to exchange greetings with the minister on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, or Feast of the Sacrifice, which marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

At least 20 people, including some policemen, were injured in the deadly attack across the lawless region.

Medical sources said the death toll is expected to rise as some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack although similar incidents are usually blamed on Taliban militants.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have strongly condemned the deadly incident.

Pakistan is grappling with growing wave of violence and militancy.

Dera Ismail Khan and its adjacent areas have experienced a fresh spate of violence and militancy over the past few months. Militant attacks and bomb explosions have killed hundreds of people across the volatile region so far this year.

The Pakistani army has launched several fresh operations in the troubled northwestern and southwestern regions in a bid to flush out militants from the volatile areas.

Despite the Pakistani government’s operations against Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and associated groups, they have been able to spread their influence in various regions of the country and kill thousands of people.
