A KU Klux Klan Imperial Wizard turned born-again-Christian has visited Geelong to lecture local school children on the importance of stopping hatred and accepting difference.
Johnny Lee Clary said it was up to the young people of Australia to stop race hatred and bullying in schools and communities, the Geelong Advertiser reports.
While in his early 20s, Mr Clary was bodyguard to renowned white supremicist David Duke before taking over as leader of one of the race hate group’s chapters in the US, more than two decades ago.
Last week, he drew on his experiences to tell year nine and ten students at Geelong Lutheran College in Mt Duneed they have the power to choose between right and wrong.
Speaking to the Geelong Advertiser, Mr Clary, also a former professional wrestler, said he had made the wrong decisions after being seduced by the KKK as a teenager, but was now trying to help others.
“What changed my mind? I turned on the TV and I saw teenagers joining hate groups,” he said.
“I said, ‘Man, these kids are making the same mistake that I made when I was their age’. I realised they needed someone to go talk to them.
