Dying mum pens bucket list with son

A Queensland mother dying of cancer has written a “bucket list” with her 12-year-old son about the things they would like to do together in her final months.

Doctors told Emma Rathie she had just a year to live in January and that her brain tumour was terminal, the Townsville Bulletin reports.

Faced with the heartbreaking news, the 31-year-old mother and her son Blake decided to pen the list.

“Someone suggested I do the list, so we wrote it together,” Ms Rathie said.

“Most of it is what Blake really wants to do with me. The first thing he said was to see the snow.”

The bucket list, which was posted on Facebook, has prompted an outpouring of support for Ms Rathie and Blake.

At least seven of the pair’s wishes have now been fundraised for or donated.

Ms Rathie said she was stunned by the concern shown to her, often by strangers.

“It’s unbelievable. They didn’t know me from a bar of soap,” she said.

Zoemaree Harris said she was moved to help Ms Rathie complete her wishlist after she saw it on Facebook.

“It just touched me because they were simple things anyone would want to do with their family,” she said.

“I decided to take it my personal mission to make it happen.”

This weekend Ms Rathie, Blake and her parents will complete their first wish when they take a four-day trip to central Australia.

One of the pair’s wishes will come true this weekend when they camp at a sacred Aboriginal site, go on a helicopter ride and explore the area.

The holiday was donated by the SEIT Outback Australia tour company.
