A man is set to face a Sydney court after being extradited from South Australia and charged with the murder of a man in Newcastle.
On the afternoon on October 4, police were called to a flat in the Newcastle suburb of Waratah after neighbours became concerned for the occupant’s welfare.
Inside they found the body of 62-year-old Dennis Griffin.
Detectives formed Strike Force Mepunga to investigate the death.
Last Thursday, South Australian Police arrested a 48-year-old man at a hotel in Mount Gambier.
An extradition order was granted at Mount Gambier Magistrates Court later that day in relation to a NSW arrest warrant for the murder of Mr Griffin.
The 48-year-old man arrived in Sydney on Wednesday evening.
He was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with murder.
He is expected to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.
