Frederik captivates eager welcome party

CASTLEMAINE Secondary College’s captains never expected to meet a prince during their post-exam celebrations.

Caitlyn Parsons and Cameron Fortune had been unaware who they were going to meet after receiving a mysterious call from their school checking their availability.

Learning they would meet Danish Crown Prince Frederik was so last minute they hadn’t even had time to brag to their mates.

“(Our friends) don’t know. We have only just finished exams,” Caitlyn said.

“They will probably be pretty jealous.”

Caitlyn joked that meeting the prince had not featured in her plans for her post-exams free time.

“But I am not complaining,” she said.

The school’s leaders presented the prince with a Don KR Castlemaine aprons upon his arrival.

Castlemaine Primary School prep pupils Emma Giddings and Noah Thompson also greeted the prince.

The preps were first in line to officially greet the Prince Frederik when he arrived at the Castlemaine factory yesterday.

Prince Frederik crouched and chatted with the preps and asked them about the Castlemaine Rock lollies they had just given him.

While the official greeting party was primed for the arrival, Bendigo publisher Louise Howland trumped everyone and was the first person to speak to the prince.

Ms Howland, complete with a dog under one arm and gifts under the other, was standing in line with the prince’s door when he emerged from his car.

The Danish king-in-waiting briefly spoke with Ms Howland and accepted her books before moving on to the official proceedings.
