Mr Chávez, who has ruled Venezuela since 1999, has been receiving treatment
for cancer for the past year, and reports have circulated in the past week
that he is now very ill. Robert Zoellick, head of the World Bank, said on
Thursday that Mr Chávez’s “days are numbered”, while Spanish
newspaper ABC claimed that his illness “has entered into its final
stages”.
