IRGC commanders criticize Iranian newspaper note, calling it false accusation

Tehran, February 17, The Iran Project – Iran’s IRGC top commanders reacted to a note published by an Iranian newspaper last Sunday, criticizing it for comparing the forces’ move in defending the nation’s territory with the ISIS terrorist acts.

Following a note published by Ghanoon Newspaper last Sunday which had compared the Iranian military forces’ treatment toward the US captured sailors with the ISIS inhuman moves, IRGC’s top commanders reacted to the comment, blaming it as a false accusation.

Speaking to a press, Brigadier General Rasoul Sanaei-Rad, Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for Political Affairs, noted the realities of the US marines’ story, expressing regret that some disregard the violation of Iran’s territorial waters as the main aspect of the story.

“What if it was Iranian navy craft which had entered the US territorial waters, how would the US forces react?” he asked, emphasizing the proper host and behavior of IRGC toward the American captured sailors during the period of detention.

Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari was another senior military official who responded the newspaper’s note. He called the newspaper’s move a “mistake,” expressing hope that such wrongdoings never happen in future.

Speaking to a reporter, Yadollah Javani, IRGC’s Political Chief and the Senior Adviser to Supreme Leader also announced that the newspaper measure is not justifiable, reiterating that the IRGC’s detention of US marines was totally along with the goal of preserving and protecting Iran’s borders and nation’s rights.

Expressing surprise over comparing the Muslim fighter with the ISIS forces, Commander of Basij Forces Brigadier General Ali Fazli severely criticized those who published such note.

Mohammad Reza Naghdi, also blamed it, hoping that such media can write free from any dependence to Western powers.

Calling the comparison between Iran’s IRGC forces behavior to ISIS as “a false accusation,” Mohammad Bagherzadeh, commander of the committee to find missing veterans of the armed forces, stressed the difference between the military and war field and diplomacy which requires the military forces to respond the first enemy’s move instantly.

Earlier in mid-January, Iran’s IRGC arrested the US marines who trespassed into Iran’s territorial waters and released them after Americans apologized for the incident.
