A Melbourne man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for strangling a woman in Kensington.

A Victorian Supreme Court jury found Jason Grimmett, 36, guilty of manslaughter last month.

The court heard the former sales manager and television host met Janine Kelly, 48, at an Ascot Vale hotel during a night of heavy drinking last year.

He admitted punching and strangling her during an argument at her home.

The court heard Grimmett already had a conviction for bashing a female security guard at Crown Casino.

Justice Mark Weinberg described Grimmett’s attitude to women as utterly repugnant.

Grimmett will be eligible for parole in eight years.
