Missing Tas walker found safe and well

A 50-year-old walker missing in remote southern Tasmania has been found safe and well.

Relatives had reported the man missing after he failed to return to Cockle Creek as expected two days ago.

Search and rescue officers and SES volunteers were dropped by helicopter along the South Coast Track to find him.

Search coordinator Inspector Stuart Scott said the walker was found by police ground crews at South Cape Rivulet “alive and well”.

He is now being taken back to Hobart, he said.

“Circumstances as to his delay and subsequent search will be subject to further inquiry over the coming days,” he said.

Cockle Creek is the most southern place reached by road in Australia, about 150km from Hobart.
