Police have charged two men with murder and seized a gun they believe was used in a fatal shooting in Sydney’s south-west late last year.
Matthew Hedges, 25, was shot through a window at his Chester Hill in the early hours of New Year’s Eve.
Paramedics could not revive the father of four, who had been released from prison shortly before his death.
Today detectives simultaneously raided three houses at about 6:00am (AEDT).
Two men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested at homes in Bankstown and later charged with murder.
Police say the shooting was linked to drugs and organised crime.
Detective Inspector David Laidlaw says a number of children were in the home when Mr Hedges was killed.
“He was alerted that there were some people attempting to gain entry to his premises,” Inspector Laidlaw said.
“He’s then gone to the window of the lounge room of his residence, whereupon one of the two offenders has fired one shot, struck him in the chest and he was unable to be revived.”
Inspector Laidlaw says Mr Hedges’ parents are relieved at this morning’s arrests.
“Even the early hour phone call we made this morning, they were that appreciative that we managed to solve a part of the puzzle of the murder of their son,” he said.
Police say a third man, 22, arrested at Condell Park will face unrelated charges.
