No plea to Cannington murder charge

UPDATE 1:30pm: A man charged over a fatal stabbing in East Cannington last night has made a brief appearance in Perth Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Duran Leonard Nepean, 28, was not required to enter a plea to the charge of murder.

It is alleged he fatally stabbed 26-year-old Andrew Jonathan Schimmel on Gibb Street just after 6pm following an argument between the pair.

Mr Nepean was remanded in custody to appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrate’s Court on January 25 next year.

Duty Insp. Neil Blair said the 26-year-old man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital after the alleged stabbing but died shortly afterwards.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said a 28-year-old man was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neighbours Tony Warren and Andrew Jackson have just moved into the area. “That has spun me right out,” Mr Jackson said.
