NSW police step up HSU investigation

NSW police will step up investigations into the disgraced Health Services Union (HSU) after being handed a damning report on its East branch.

The report, prepared by Ian Temby QC and accountant Dennis Robertson, found more than $20 million of questionable payments were made to suppliers without any form of tendering or contract.

The report, which was leaked last week, also shed further light on extravagant salaries, excessive credit card claims, nepotism and poor governance in the organisation.

On Thursday, a police spokeswoman confirmed the report had been forwarded to Strike Force Carnarvon and investigations were continuing.

The strike force was set up by NSW police to investigate allegations of corruption within the union.

Former HSU national president Michael Williamson, who resigned via text message on Wednesday, was frequently mentioned in the report.

HSU East is now in administration.
