Two men accused of murdering Leopold man Russell Hammond have faced Geelong Magistrates Court this morning.
Garreth Giles, 24, and Christopher Coulter, 18, have both been charged with murder, arson, theft of a motor vehicle and theft.
The court heard that neither had been in custody before and there were concerns about the vulnerability of the blond-haired Coulter because of his age.
Coulter, dressed in a T-shirt, shorts and a black, zipped hoodie, clasped his hands and stared ahead during his brief appearance.
The bearded Giles was clothed in forensic overalls and was barefoot during his appearance.
Both were remanded for a committal mention on May 4.
The body of 49-year-old Mr Hammond was found by dirt bike riders in parkland in Corio, near Geelong’s ring road, hours after his burnt-out Mercedes-Benz was discovered in nearby Leopold.
The call-centre worker had been tied up.
The Age reported earlier this week that Mr Hammond may have died during a sex game gone wrong.
His mother, Helen Hammond, told the media on Tuesday that her son was “a very decent, thorough gentleman – a very good man, kind man and generous man with his time”.
Police said Mr Hammond had no known criminal associates.
