PLO condemns Paris’ fight against BDS

Days of Palestine, West Bank -Senior Palestinian Authority official accused on Friday Paris Council of cracking down on freedom of expression after it had endorsed war on BDS.

Paris Council, headed by the Socialist Mayor Anne Hidalgo, adopted in the middle of last month two resolutions against BDS movement.

One of the resolutions was submitted by the Socialist-led coalition of Hidalgo and the other was submitted by the centre-right members of the City Council. Both resolutions were adopted.

In one of the resolutions, Paris mayor stated that her municipality “opposes publicly all attempts to isolate Israel from the collective of nations” and stressed on the city’s “commitment to the promotion of a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israel conflict.”

In a letter sent to Hidalgo, Secretary General of the PLO’s Executive Committee Saeb Erekat wrote: “Condemning a legal and peaceful movement against an apartheid regime adopting racist policies is considered a clear support for a continuous colonial activity.”

Erekat condemned the “strict restrictions on the freedom of speech imposed by the capital of freedom, equality and fraternity.”

He called for the Paris Council to “condemn the Israeli occupation, settlement and illegal colonialism of Palestine.”
