Western Australia Police are searching for a man who injured two police officers when he drove into them during a breath test in Perth overnight.

The police officers had breath tested the man at a Glendalough shopping centre and were taking down his details when he hopped into his car and reversed it, pinning an officer between the open door of the car and a light pole.

The second officer at the scene was knocked to the ground.

One officer who had a suspected broken leg was released from hospital this morning, and the other is set to undergo a CT scan this afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Vic Hussey says the offender has not yet been found, but police believe he is still driving around in the car.

He says the officers were shaken by their experience.

“The one officer that was dragged against the car door, I spent a long time chatting with him and he said to me that he honestly thought that that was it … that he was going to be dead,” he said.

Senior Sergeant Hussey says officers’ injuries are not life threatening.

“One officer has been discharged with soft tissue damage – we are not sure at this stage if he has actually had his legs driven over,” he said.

“The other officer has got a very distinct mark on his chest and bruising and he is still undergoing examination.”

Police are urging the man to hand himself in to authorities.
