Police name Launceston stab victim

Police have released the name of a Tasmanian man who died after being stabbed in the chest at a house in Launceston.

Darren John Booth, 37, of Blaydon Street, Kings Meadows, was found by police with a stab wound to the chest area on Sunday.

Police were called to an address in Kings Meadows about 1.45am (AEST) following reports of a disturbance involving two men.

Ambulance crews tried to resuscitate the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe a fight erupted between two men at the house when one confronted the other inside the property.

They believe the two men were known to each other.

A 16-year old boy, a 15-year-old girl and an adult female witnessed the incident, they said.

The area has been cordoned off and a crime scene has been established.

A 51-year-old Waverley man is assisting police with their inquiries.
