Colin Barnett says the process of appointing a Corruption and Crime Commissioner is still in its early days.

The Premier Colin Barnett is disappointed the long serving District Court Judge Roger Macknay’s name has been leaked as the new head of the state’s corruption watchdog.

The role of Corruption and Crime Commissioner has been in limbo since Len Roberts-Smith vacated the position in January.

It is believed a parliamentary committee overseeing the CCC yesterday unanimously endorsed Judge Macknay as the best candidate for the job.

The Premier says the process is still in its early days.

“There is a process for the appointment of a commissioner for the Corruption and Crime Commission,” he said.

“That is, that appointment is yet to go to cabinet and to the Executive Council and indeed I have not even met the nominated person.”
