In court again: Gina Rinehart (AAP: Tony McDonough)
Billionaire mining magnate Gina Rinehart has lost an attempt to have details of a family feud kept secret.
Three of Ms Rinehart’s children have initiated a lawsuit to have her removed as head of a multi-billion-dollar family trust.
Ms Rinehart had argued that lifting a suppression order of details of the case would endanger the lives of her family.
Existing suppression orders that prevent the case being reported are in place until Friday, when her lawyers will ask the High Court for leave to challenge the ruling that revokes the orders.
As a back-up plan, her legal team lodged an application for another suppression based on fears for her family’s safety due to publicity surrounding the case.
In the Supreme Court today, Ms Rinehart’s lawyers tried to reopen their application for a suppression on safety grounds, saying they have been made aware of a threat to her by an anonymous man in Dubai.
The lawyers said the threat was reported to them by Adrian Francis, who is a West Australian security consultant.
But Justice Michael Ball dismissed the application, saying the threat was not credible.
That means if Gina Rinehart loses Friday’s case in the High Court, details of the family feud may be able to be reported.
