RIOT police used dogs and capsicum spray after a party at a community hall in Sydney’s west got out of hand when it was gatecrashed.

Police say they shut down the party at Lidcombe about 11.15pm (AEDT) last night after a fight broke out when a group of gatecrashers tried to get into the hall.

Local police called in the riot squad, the dog unit and the Middle Eastern organised crime squad after being confronted by a number of men who were refusing to leave.

“During the incident, police were forced to use their capsicum spray while attempting to break up a fight,” police said.

Police arrested five people, including a 17-year-old who allegedly assaulted a television camera man.
