Zero Hedge
October 17, 2011

Today at 3pm on Las Vegas, perpetually ignored by the media on both the left and right presidential candidate Ron Paul will announce details of his $1 trillion proposal in government spending cuts, which will be the start of a process to balance the Federal budget in three . As Politico reports, “the Texas congressman will lay out a budget blueprint for deep and far-reaching cuts to federal spending, including the elimination of five cabinet-level departments and the drawdown of American troops fighting overseas.” Amusingly, and if there is anything that will Paul brownie points with an electorate disgusted by those spreading hypocritical class warfare, “there will even be a symbolic readjustment of the president’s own salary to put it in line with the average American salary.” Which will simply make it a given that every president going forward will have at least three laid off Hollywood scriptwriters preoccupied as ghost writers and writing presidential “autobiographies.” For the royalties. But we digress. “The federal workforce would be reduced by 10 percent, and the president’s pay would be cut to $39,336 — a level that the Paul document notes is “approximately equal to the median personal income of the American worker.” We somehow doubt that even Paul will go as far as proposing a much needed overhaul of campaign finance, which basically forces every politician to wear sponsorship tags of all the Wall Street banks that have “gifted” a given politician and/or president in the past 5 years, but we can surely hope.

More from Politico:

Many of the ideas are familiar from Paul’s staunch libertarianism, as well as tea party favorites like eliminating the departments of education and energy. But Paul goes further: he’ll propose immediately freezing spending by numerous government agencies at 2006 levels, the last time Republicans had complete control of the federal budget, and drastically reducing spending elsewhere. The EPA would see a 30 percent cut, the Food and Drug Administration would see one of 40 percent and foreign aid would be zeroed out immediately. He’d also take an ax to Pentagon funding for wars.

Medicaid, the children’s health insurance program, food stamps, family support programs and the children’s nutrition program would all be block-granted to the states and removed from the mandatory spending column of the federal budget. Some functions of eliminated departments, such as Pell Grants, would be continued elsewhere in the federal bureaucracy.

And in a noticeable nod to seniors during an election year when Social Security’s become an issue within the Republican primary, the campaign says that plan “honors our promise to our seniors and veterans, while allowing young workers to opt out.”

Also, say goodbye to progressive tax:

Paul would also make far-reaching changes to federal tax policy, reducing the top corporate income tax rate to 15 percent, eliminating capital gains and dividends taxes, and allowing for repatriation of overseas capital without tax penalties. All Bush-era tax cuts would be extended.

Lastly, Obama’s “revolutionary” healthcare overhaul, will be hauled over.

And like the rest of his GOP rivals, Paul would repeal President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, along with the Dodd-Frank financial regulatory reform law enacted last year. Paul, a longtime Federal Reserve critic, would also push a full audit of the central bank, as well as legislation to “strengthen the dollar and stabilize inflation.”

We look forward to the actual speech and hope to present it live to our readers.

  1. Hold up, Ron Paul! It isn’t just the President that earns a crazy amount of money in Govt. There are plenty of GS’s that earn more than the POTUS despite “wage caps”. Make Congress and the President a wage cap of $80K and no retirement. Take away the incentive to make being a Representative job in Governement a lifetime job!

I Just Want To Throw This Out There…

I Noticed That The White House Has Some Extra Space On The Back Lawn, And I Was Thinking That Would Be A Great Place For A MEDICAL CANNABIS (MARIJUANA) GREENHOUSE!!!

I Think The President Should Find Ways To Pay For All His Secret Service Details And Limousine Services As Well As The Pay-Cut, And Medical Mary Jane Would Be Ideal For generating TAXABLE REVENUE!

Let Me Know What You Think, Dr. Paul… 😉

I don’t know, $39k is barely worth getting out of bed for, what NEEDS to be done is to BAN ALL CORPORATE CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS!!! Only REAL people with REAL social security numbers should be allowed to contribute to political campaigns! Why is that we only have a $5k say, while a corporation can have a multi-million dollar say. This is exactly why nearly all of our politicians have been bought by special interests.

HE NEEDS TO START PROMISING FREE SHIT.

A 33% PAY INCREASE BY WAY OF THE ABOLISHMENT OF THE FED AND IRS.

LOWER TAXES IN THE FORM OF ENDING THE WARS AND BRINGING TROOPS HOME.

MORE FREEDOM IN THE FORM OF ENDING THE PERPETUAL STATE OF EMERGENCY IN PLACE SINCE THE CIVIL WAR. END MARITIME JURISDICTION AND BRING BACK COMMON LAW.

AND TO HELL WITH ALL THESE NEW ENVIROMENTAL AND REGULATORY LAWS.

    AND AGENCIES.

A lobbyist is supposed to be me and you who go to our Congress with ideas for bills that become laws but since they have deemed corporations as persons the Congress has basically shut us out of the process. One cannot serve two masters. Someone ought to replay the ‘I’m just a Bill’ schoolhouse rock video to the Federal Government. It is with the people the law originates and somehow they have turned it all around and make laws protecting not only the corporations but themselves as well. Congressman are supposed to be discussing/debating proposals from the people not dictating to us the law they themselves conjure up via corporate lobbyists. These corporate lobbyists are the profiteers who bribe the weakened Congress. It has gotten to the point where the members who cannot be bribed are overrun by the rest in the process.

  3. “Ron Paul Proposes Elimination Of Education, Energy Departments, Lowering Presidential Salary To $39,336″

This all sounds good. If what the average person makes goes up then what he makes should too, and if it goes down then what he makes should too!

And if massive inflation wipes us all out it should wipe him out too!
Note that most of these proposals will require Congressional approval.

  5. Ron Paul gets more likable every day. It is true that the median worker salary is around 40k. This money thing has gotten way out of hand when it comes to them paying themselves. And the donations for campaigns is a disgrace when you parallel that with the struggling economy situation. Those ‘bailouts’ could have made us all billionaires by now. There is only 300 million something of us paying trillions back? There is barely 7 billion people in the entire world for heaven sake. Something does not compute in that equation and Obama is a part of that sponge sucking up the labor wealth of the people. They are public servants that oversee their own pay scale and it has gotten beyond out of control. Ron Paul has got to be the only honest candidate who is humble as well and willing to forfeit a quarter mil a year rather than compromise his position. Reminds me of Ross Perot and his warning of the sucking sound of jobs going overseas who said he would work as president for free to save the economy. The more things ‘change’ the more they stay the same. It will only begin to turn around when we get a Ron Paul/Ross Perot elected who is not blinded by greed and power.

Not to mention the hypocrite Michelle Obama who makes sure she is photographed shopping like a welfare mom while spending at least a half a mil of American taxpayer monies on an African vacation? Like I said something does not compute. Shame on the Obama hypocrites and anyone who is being fooled twice by these deliberate manipulators.

  8. Holly Cow this is will make “Headline News”, won’t it?
The MSM will pick this story up Fast and furiously, won’t they?
    NOT.

  9. Too bad Ron Paul didn’t discuss the elimination of the police state apparatus starting with the TSA and DHS. Also, what about the FDA and Dept of Agriculture, both utterly captured by BigPharma and Monsanto?

We know TPTB use education to brainwash the masses. However, by targeting the Dept. of Education as a first priority Ron Paul risks losing the support of moderates. The message should be more nuanced, otherwise it will play into the hands of the divide and conquer enthusiasts.

I hope Ron Paul proposes a comprehensive plan of paying down the deficit. Cutting the fat out of government is essential. Cutting corporate taxes and taxes on the wealthy doesn’t make sense until we have a firm handle on how we will pay down the debt.

Ron Paul’s greatest contribution all these years has been as an educator on how the corrupt financial system (esp. central banking) and government work together to distort the free market and gradually eliminate personal freedom.

Correction. I missed the proposal to cut the FDA’s budget by 40%. That’s a start.

  10. We need education..the government would LOVE more stupid people.. So how about instead of cutting the department of education,…we instead cut TSAFEMADHSCIAendless wars corporations “personhood”outsourcing jobs”Free Trade The Fed buying from China bailing out billionare bankers and while we are at it…raise a few tariffs too?

Aho Winyan. Hau, we need education. That’s exactly why Dept of Ed. needs to be abolished. Compare test scores before and after Ed. Dept came into existence (1979). And then factor in how test scores have been “normed down” at least twice in that period. Or buy some copies of McGuffeys reader and see what kids were required to do so long ago, and we don’t come near that level of education.

  11. Once this country is restored to the Constitution, there should be a law to prevent any infringements.

    There already is.

    Federalist Paper #28.

(The Federalist Papers are the footnotes to the Constitution, and have the same force.)

  12. I’ve got a better idea … Cut the government workforce ( agencies ) completely out of existence, and pay elected representatives nothing.
Overpaid and non taxed career politicians are nothing but a bunch of perverts.
The only things that public servants need are
food, clothing, shelter, care, recreation and transportation.

It’s called shaping up or shipping out.

  13. End everything tht begins with “Dept. of..”

  14. Lower the pay of every member of Congress to $40k as well!

  15. Well, right now, even 39K is too much for the job that this fraud isn’t doing. The same goes for the rest of this administration.

  16. Wish their was more than one Ron Paul. I look at the elite and see nothing but thieves, liars and scumbags. Honest people haven’t got prayer against the monsters in D.C.

  17. I mostly agree except for eliminating capital gains and dividend taxes, I rather shift the tax burden to that in order to lower payroll and income taxes.
