Security guard dies in collision with taxi

A security guard has been killed after a patrol car he was driving collided with a taxi in Victoria’s north early this morning.

Police believe the taxi was travelling north-bound on the Kilmore-Broadford Road, about three kilometres south of Broadford, when it veered onto the wrong side of the road at about 3am.

The 37-year-old guard died at the scene while the taxi driver was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

“He was admitted with serious head injuries,” Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Gabrielle Degenhardt said.

There were no other people involved in the collision. Police’s major collision investigaton unit were investigating the scene.

The death takes Victoria’s road toll to 129, compared to 144 for the same time last year.
