Six hurt in balcony collapse in Sydney



ONE teenager remains in hospital after a balcony collapsed on Sydney’s northern beaches.


A GROUP of six, all aged between 17 and 19, plunged three metres to the ground when the balcony gave way at a home in Collaroy Street, Collaroy, about 10pm (AEST) on Friday.

An 18-year-old male remained at Royal North Shore hospital in a stable condition on Saturday night, a NSW Health spokeswoman told AAP.

Another five had been released after receiving treatment for cuts and bruises.

Several other people were on the balcony when it collapsed but weren’t hurt.

Neighbour Kelly Emerson described the scene on Friday night as “chaotic”.

“Just bodies lying everywhere, kids screaming,” she told Network Seven.

Anna Rysenbry who was on the balcony when it fell said she got up and saw her friend “covered in blood”.

“I just went straight to her and everyone started screaming.”

The tenant of the Collaroy home, Jo Gillies she had been trying to get the owner to fix the balcony for the past five years.

“It is rotted all the way through,” she told Network Seven.
