A teenage boy died after a B-double truck ploughing into his bedroom while he was sleeping at his home in Urunga on the NSW mid north coast.

Police say the truck collided with a ute on a sweeping bend of the Pacific Highway at Urunga at about 5am before slamming into the house.

A man travelling in the ute also died at the scene.

Rescue workers freed a number of people who were trapped in the wreckage of the accident and paramedics took them to Coffs Harbour Hospital.

An ambulance officer says at least two of the people taken to hospital are in a critical condition.

“Paramedics had to treat seven patients on scene. These patients have all been taken to Coffs Base Hospital, two of those being critical from the truck,” he said.

“Paramedics have pronounced two people on scene deceased, one of those being a driver of the car and also unfortunately a child inside the house.”

The Pacific Highway has been closed in both directions and is expected to stay shut for several hours.

Drivers are being warned to use diversions and expect lengthy delays.

The Transport Management Centre says light traffic is being diverted via Hungry Head.
