Slipper tweets thanks for the support

Controversial federal MP Peter Slipper has thanked well-wishers for their support after he stood aside as Speaker at the weekend.

Mr Slipper used his personal Twitter account on Monday to send the message of thanks on behalf of himself and wife, Inge.

“Thanks to all those who have offered strong support to Inge and me at this time,” he tweeted on the social media network.

“Much appreciated.”

Mr Slipper stood aside as Speaker on Sunday pending inquiries into allegations he misused taxpayer-funded Cabcharge dockets.

He also is facing civil claims he sexually harassed a former media adviser, as well as new claims he breached MPs entitlements guidelines by spending more than $3000 to campaign in Tasmania for a friend.

The MP for the Sunshine Coast electorate of Fisher has denied the allegations made against him and vowed to return as Speaker “once it is clear” the criminals allegations are found to be “untrue”.
