The Unanswered Questions: Beyond Norwegian Mass Murderer Breivick’s Human Rights Trial

Fahwad Al-Khadoumi (nsnbc) : Norwegian far-right mass murderer Anders Behring Breivick used his human rights lawsuit against the Norwegian prison system to spread propaganda for his “cause”. In 2011 Breivick exploded a bomb in the Norwegian capital Oslo and went on a killing spree on a remote island Utoya where young members of Norway’s Workers’ Youth League held a seminar. Norway has one of the world’s most “comfortable” prison systems. Several questions about Breivick circumstances of the crime continue to puzzle those who know his case.

Anders Behring Breivick_Self-styled avenger or useful idiot_NorwayBreivick, whose crime, according to a meticulously written “manifesto” was inspired by opposition against the subversive influence of multi-culturalism and the philosophy of white supremacy and opposition against the “creeping Islamization” of Norway and Europe filed a lawsuit in which he alleges several violations of his human rights as well as cruel and inhumane treatment by the Norwegian prison system.

Anders Behring Breivick was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the killing of 77 and for injuring about another 300. Breivick used the opening of his trial on Tuesday to give a hailing Nazi salute. Breivick also notes that he regrets that he hadn’t succeeded in killing more. On Breivick’s list of complaints about alleged human rights violations and cruel and inhumane punishment are among others, that he was served cold coffee, has to eat cheap and bad food, lack of access to nicotine and caffeine, and sometimes to be served the same dinner twice in a row.

These complaints may sound utterly outlandish for anyone who has ever visited a prison in the United States, Russia, Thailand, India, Egypt…. but Norway is priding itself of maintaining one of the world’s most humane prison systems in the world. More “realistic complaints” against the prison systems and judiciary in Norway and other Scandinavian countries would eventually have to include the wide-spread use of long-term, pre-trial isolation of prisoners that according to experts and human rights organizations like Amnesty International amounts to torture. Breivick’s trial is widely being perceived as an attempt to gain publicity for his cause.

Behind the Sensationalism and Compliant Reporting

oslo bombAnders Behring Breivick is the son of Wenche Behring (1946–2013), a nurse, and Jens David Breivik (born 1935), a civil economist, who worked as a diplomat for the Norwegian Embassy in London and later Paris. He spent the first year of his life in London until his parents divorced when he was a year old. Breivick’s mother suffered allegedly from Borderline Personality Disorder and forensic pathologists have questioned the sanity of Anders Behring Breivick.

Studies of official photographs of the blast effect of the bomb that Anders Behring Breivick exploded in Oslo, conducted by a Danish explosives expert who is consulting for nsnbc international, showed that the blast effect was, as in many other terrorism cases, inconsistent with the damage that could be caused by a fertilizer-fuel mix bomb.

The trajectories of debris were, moreover, inconsistent with one single blast. Some explosions may have occurred “inside” the targeted building (see photo).  Oslo police conducted an anti-terrorism drill not far from the blast site in central Oslo in the days up to the bombing. What exactly was the drill about? no answers have been forthcoming.

Breivick_Mar 2016_NorwayBreivick fired hundreds of aimed shots on Utoya within relatively short time; A feat that according to many expert marksmen nsnbc has spoken with would be difficult to replicate even for them. Reports about a second shooter were never properly investigated. Some eyewitnesses from Utoya that nsnbc has spoken with described Breivick as cold, emotionless, robot-like and “as if in a daze”. There is no doubt that Anders Behring Breivick is convinced of his “cause”. The question is, however, who reaps the benefit from his shooting spree and terror bombing?

Those who have serious and well-funded reasons to object against multi-culturalism as a threat to Scandinavian traditions and ways of life most certainly did not benefit from Breivick’s appalling mass murder. Right-wing parties did not benefit either. And then there is the disturbing fact that Utoya hosted a seminar where Norwegian youth discussed Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine. The question whether or not Breivick was, indeed, a “useful idiot” and if so for whom should be seriously investigated. It may turn out to be more productive than paying attention to whether or not Breivick used a Nazi salute at the opening of his “human rights trial”.

Editors’ Note: Norwegian and European mainstream media are not pursuing these questions. Independent media lack the necessary funding and staff. Whether or not these questions will be investigated does in other words, depends on whether or not our nsnbc readers chip in a few coins per month rather than buying one more “guardian”.
