Twitter Snags 15 Percent of Online Adults

About 15 percent of Americans who use the Internet use Twitter, and about half of those use it every day, according to a survey commissioned by the Pew Internet project.

Smartphone users are especially likely to use to microblogging service, Pew found.

“Overall Twitter adoption remains steady, as the 15 percent  of online adults who use Twitter is similar to the 13 percent of such adults who did so in May 2011,” pew said. “At the same time, the proportion of online adults who use Twitter on a typical day has doubled since May 2011 and has quadrupled since late 2010—at that point just 2 percent of online adults used Twitter on a typical day.”

Princeton Survey Research Associates International called more than 2,200 adults in two separate surveys, in January-February and then in March and April, for the report.
