US-led trooper killed in south Afghanistan

NATO announced the news in a statement released on Friday. It said the attack happened on Friday but did not provide further details

On Thursday, an Afghan Special-Forces soldier shot dead a US trooper in the southern province of Kandahar, before being killed by coalition forces.

Three soldiers were also killed after a bomb struck a US patrol in Kandahar’s Panjawi district.

Kandahar is among the worst-hit regions and one the most dangerous parts of country for the US-led foreign troops.

According to the icasualties.org website, more than 130 foreign troops have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

Attacks on the foreign troops hit record highs at this time of the year, which is referred to as the Taliban Spring Offensive.

The rising death toll for the foreign militaries in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other members of the Western military alliance of NATO.

This has undermed public support for the decade-long war led by Washington, which is also faced with rising anti-US sentiments in Afghanistan.
