‘West plans terror attacks in Syria’

“The countries claiming to be fighting against terrorism have not taken a stance on this issue (the latest terrorist attack in Syria), considering such acts as a significant sign of change in Syria. Therefore, these countries [are the ones that] plan terror acts behind the scenes,” Larijani said on Thursday.

Remarks by the US, German, French and British officials over the past 12 hours indicate that not only did these countries fail to condemn the assassinations in Syria, but they also consider them as a sign of change, Larijani added.

He said the West has dichotomized terrorism into good and bad and added that, by planning such terrorist attacks, the Western countries seek to destabilize Syria and influence the UN Security Council.

Syrian Defense Minister Lieutenant General Dawoud Rajiha, his deputy Assef Shawkat and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani were killed while National Security Bureau chief General Hisham Bikhtiyar and Interior Minister Major General Mohammad Ibrahim al-Sha’ar were wounded in a bombing that hit the headquarters of the Syrian National Security on Wednesday.

The so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) terrorists have claimed responsibility for the attack, warning of more violence in the Syrian capital, Damascus, in the coming days.

This comes as the UN Security Council is scheduled to vote on a resolution on Syria on Thursday.

The draft resolution threatens to impose sanctions against Syrian President Bashar Al Assad’s government ‘if the violence continues to escalate in the country.’

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of many people, including security forces.

The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters, but Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
